Scars of WomanhoodThe story is centred on a young dashing girl whose life is full of challenges and crisis, crisis of identity, single parental upbringing, excruciating marriage and infertility.

Naomi mianders through miseries and difficult challenges as she struggles through the stages of life. Her mother single-handedly strives to give her a good upbringing, yet Naomi is not an exemption of the category of children who are suffering the agony of single parental upbringing. Having come to terms with the fact that she is fatherless, she resumes the quest for who her biological father is. Ulimma her mother is bedridden with an illness she developed as a result of maltreatment and heartbreak by Okoli. She is against Naomi’s mission of finding her father, but Naomi insist on embarking on it, knowing fully well that  her mother’s ill condition is as a result of emotional trauma.

Naomi succeeds in gaining admission into the university to study medicine, but she is unable to procceed due to financial constraint. Even as she tries to sponsor herself, the little procceeds realised from her tedious petty trade is used for the family’s upkeep and her mother’s ailment.

Meanwhile, Naomi’s determination to scour for her supposed father is enthused by the severity and deterioration of her mother’s health. ULIMMA is diagnosed of cancer and a huge sum of money is needed for the treatment. Naomi sees Okoli as their last resort, but her hope is deprived by Okoli’s denial of his responsibility for fatherhood and vehemant refusal to assist her mother’s condition. Left with no choice, she decides to compromise her virginity in order to save her mother’s life.

She struggles her way to a nursing school, and while  in school, she meets Peter, a royal prince, and they eventually fall in love and get married. But then Naomi’s happiness for having found love and a place to call home is short-lived when she begins to face a tribulation of segregation and animosity by Peter’s family due to the differences in their social strata. And coupled with infertility it eventuates into an aggravated nightmare.

Due to a desperate quest for grandchildren, particularly males, Peter’s parents urge Peter to get another wife who is capable of bearing children.

Peter ends up impregnating Diana, the daughter of a family friend, who he eventually marries. But Diana is uncomfortable and envious of sharing her husband with another woman. For this reason, she conives with Ijedimma, her mother to brainstorm Naomi’s ejection out of the house. Naomi’s is accused of attempted murder and resultantly thrown out of her matrimonial home.

Fortunately, Clara an intimate childhood friend offers her shelter. Clara is also experiencing a tremendous agony in her matrimonial home for her inability to bear male children.

Meanwhile Naomi realises that she is pregnant, something she had long yearned, prayed and cried for while she was in her matrimonial home.

Finally, Nemesis catches up with Diana when her evil deed which was hidden under the sun is revealed via the demise of their son. The marriage of she and Peter is dissolved and Peter’s family decide to seek reconciliation with Naomi. Naomi’s mind is rather made up against continuing matrimony with Peter. But considering the interest and security of her child, she derails that vehement decision.

    Nice story, very touching, detailed, traditional and informative. It’s high time the world knew what women go through in Africa, especially when they are barren or widows. Can’t wait to read the book.
